31.08.2006, 8:00 a.m. – The sky will be partially cloudy in the northwestern coastal zone while there will be a few clouds in the sky in the rest of the country up until the end of the morning when it will turn partially cloudy in the most of the country getting cloudy in the afternoon with some showers and thunderstorms that could last until the evening in the East as well as in the interior. Today will be a hot day with maximum temperature in the afternoon between 31-34 C while tonight it will oscillate between 25-28 C. The winds will be weak starting to blow from the East in the afternoon with speed between 10-25 Km/h. There will be unrest of the sea in the northeastern coastal zone while there will be a slight unrest of the sea in the rest of northern coast. The sea will be calm all over the southern coast. |

29.08.2006, 8:00 a.m. – “Ernesto” is moving over water just to the North and is expected to strengthen. The government has discontinued all tropical storm warnings. The center of this tropical storm was located near latitude 22.8 North longitude 79.3 West or about 200 miles (320 Km) Southeast of Key West, Florida and about 215 miles (350 Km) South-Southeast of Miami, Florida. “Ernesto” is moving toward the Northwest neat 14 MPH (22 Km/h) and this general motion is expected t continue for the next 24 hours. On the forecast track the center of “Ernesto” will be near the Florida Keys or Southeast Florida by this evening. Maximum sustained winds remain near 45 MPH (75 Km/h) with higher gusts. Some strengthening is forecast during the next 24 hours. Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 85 miles (140 Km) from the center. The minimum central pressure was 1007 MB (29.74 inches). Rainfall amounts of 3 to 6 inches with isolated amounts up to 10 inches are expected over the East and of 2 to 4 inches with isolated amounts of up to 6 inches over the Center. These rains could cause life-threatening flash floods and mud slides. Today the sky will be predominantly cloudy in the East and Center with some showers that will diminish in the afternoon in the East. In the West the sky will be partially cloudy getting cloudy in the afternoon with some showers. Maximum temperature will be between 28-31 C, reaching maximum of 33 C in the West while tonight it will oscillate between 24-27 C. The winds will blow from the South in the East and Center with speed between 10-25 Km/h, somewhat higher in northern coastal zone. In Matanzas province they will blow from the West to Southwest while in the rest of the West they will blow from the North with the same speed. Dangerous waves will persist from Holguin to Matanzas while in the rest of northern coast as well as in the southeastern coast there will be unrest of the sea. There will be just a slight unrest of the sea in the rest of the coast. |

28.08.2006, 5:00 p.m. – The center of “Ernesto” is nearing the northern coast. A threat of heavy rains continues. A tropical storm warning is in effect for Guantanamo, Santiago de Cuba, Granma, Holguin, Las Tunas and Camaguey. The center of Tropical Storm “Ernesto” was located at 5:00 p.m. near latitude 21.3 North longitude 76.9 West. This position is just inland over eastern Cuba, about 60 miles (100 Km) east of Camaguey. “Ernesto” is moving toward the Northwest near 13 MPH (20 Km/h) and this general motion is expected to continue for the next 24 hours. On this track the center should emerge into the Atlantic north of Cuba tonight. Maximum sustained winds are near 40 MPH (65 Km/h) with higher gusts. Strengthening is forecast after the center moves back over water. Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 105 miles (165 Km) from the center. Estimated minimum central pressure is 1007 MB (29.74 inches). Rainfall amounts of 3 to 6 inches with isolated amounts up to 10 inches are expected over the East and rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches with isolated amounts up to 6 inches are expected over the Center. These rains could cause life-threatening flash floods and mud slides. Forecast for tomorrow: the sky will be predominantly cloudy in the East and Center with rains tonight and tomorrow morning that will diminish in the afternoon. The sky will be partially cloudy in the morning in the West getting cloudy in the afternoon with showers in northern coastal zone as well as in the interior and South. Minimum temperature tonight will be between 21-24 C in the western half of the country and between 20-23 C in the eastern half. Maximum temperature tomorrow in the afternoon will be between 29-32 C, reaching maximum of 33 C in the West. The winds in the East will blow from the Southeast to South with speed between 15-30 Km/h while in the Center they will blow from the West to Northwest with speed between 50-65 Km/h. 28.08.2006, 8:00 a.m. – Tropical storm “Ernesto” is moving onshore over the Southeast. Heavy rains, floods and mud slides are still a significant threat. A “Hurricane watch” remains in effect for Guantanamo, Santiago de Cuba, Granma, Holguin, Las Tunas and Camaguey. A “Hurricane warning” means that hurricane conditions are expected within the warning area within the next 24 hours. Preparations to protect life and property should be rushed to completion. At 8:00 a.m. the center of tropical storm “Ernesto” was located near latitude 19.9 North longitude 75.5 West. This position is on the southeastern coast about 20 miles (30 Km) West of Guantanamo. “Ernesto” is moving toward the Northwest near 12 MPH (19 Km/h) and this general motion is expected to continue over the next 24 hours. On the forecast track “Ernesto” will be moving over the East today and possibly emerge off the northern coast later tonight or Tuesday morning. Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 45 MPH (75 Km/h) with higher gusts. Additional weakening is likely as “Ernesto” moves over the land today. Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 70 miles (110 Km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1005 MB (29.68 inches). Storm tides and waves should gradually diminish along the southern coast of East today. Rainfall amounts of 6 to 12 inches with possible isolated amounts of up to 20 inches are expected over portions of the Center and East. These rains could cause life-threatening flash floods and mud slides. Today the sky will keep cloudy with heavy rain in the East that will gradually extend to the Center in the afternoon. There will be just a few clouds in the sky in the West up until the end of the morning when they will increase getting partially cloudy and cloudy in the afternoon with just a few occasional showers. The winds will blow from the Southeast to South in the East with speed between 50-65 Km/h with higher gusts. In the Center they will blow from the Northeast to East with speed between 15-30 Km/h, reaching up to 30-45 Km/h in the afternoon while in the West they will blow from the East with speed between 10-25 Km/h. Maximum temperature in the West and Center will be between 31-34 C in the afternoon while in the East they will oscillate between 27-30 C. There will be dangerous waves in northeastern and southeastern coasts with coastal flooding. There will be unrest of the sea in north central and south central coasts while in the rest of the coast there will be just a slight unrest of the sea. |
