2015-08-30 13:30 TROPICAL STORM ERIKA FINAL REPORT
Tropical Storm Erika dissipated over Cuba on Saturday, 2015-08-29, some time in the late morning. Mountainous terrain of Sierra Maestra proved to be infavourable for already disorganised storm and it quickly lost its strength. Since it had never really been particularly strong, despite the fact that it claimed lives in Haiti and Dominica, Erika was unable to cause much damage in Cuba. Some local flooding did occur in the villages around Guantanamo, but it wasn't so serious and water withdrawal is expected fairly soon. In fact, in some parts, it was welcomed; its downpours wetted Cuban soil which was so badly affected by recent drought, worse since 1901. It's remnants will be felt today through moderately strong winds and heavy rain, but from tomorrow tropical storm Erika will start going to the oblivion.

2015-08-30 12:00 WEATHER ACTUAL. VARADERO.
Dawn with pretty warm temperatures. Morning will be cloudy with light winds. Occasional rain over the city in early hours of afternoon with gusty winds. Quite moist for the rest of the day despite pleasant temperatures.

2015-08-30 09:00 WEATHER FORECAST. NATIONWIDE.
Today's weather will be largely dominated by the remnants of tropical storm Erika that dissipated yesterday. Despite being seriously downgraded to minor tropical depression, Erika's presence will be felt this morning through heavily overcast weather with showers from early morning until late afternoon. In the central and western regions the rain could be particularly hard. In the East, the showers won't be so numerous and the sun might come through towards the evening.
Nevertheless, the temperature will still be in the mid 30sC (mid 90S F), somewhat lower in the central regions. At night, the temperature is expected to drop to 20C (72 F), a bit fresher than most of the nights recently.
The winds could reach the maximum speed of 32 km/h (20mph) and will cause unrest of the sea throughout the whole country; the day is best spent indoors, in your hotel.
2015-08-29 13:30 TROPICAL STORM ERIKA UPDATE
Tropical Storm Erika has started to dissipate over Cuba. All Tropical Watches and Warnings have been discontinued.

2015-08-29 09:00 TROPICAL STORM ERIKA UPDATE
Tropical Storm Erika will hit eastern Cuba some time this morning. As of 09.00 GMT the storm was only on 100 km (60 miles) away from the Cuban coast. Although behaviour of the storm has proven to be quite unpredictable, Erika's rainfall can still cause considerable damage, especially in the towns and villages of Guantanamo province where the storm will hit first. The tourists located in this area should be aware of a possible evacuations on a short notice. The accompanied winds are not of a hurricane force, but still strong enough to knock down some unstable structures. The winds speed will decrease as the storm moves inward toward the central regions of Cuba. The tidal waves could cause local flooding. The storm moves relatively quickly so it is expected to bring this unfavourable weather to the western parts tomorrow. The following provinces are expected to be affected by Erika: Guantanamo, Holguin, Las Tunas, Camaguey and Ciego de Avila.

2015-08-29 12:00 WEATHER ACTUAL. VARADERO.
Morning cloudy with occasional sun. Afternoon overcast with sporadic rain. Wind will pick up speed in the afternoon, but the sea will remain untroubled.

2015-08-29 03:00 WEATHER FORECAST. NATIONWIDE.
In the West, the day will be sunny with occasional clouds and sporadic, short-term showers. Quite a different story in the East where heavy rain is expected coupled with strong winds (up to 80 km/h, 50 mph) as the result of an approaching tropical storm Erika.
The storm won't affect the temperature too much, it will still be hot, between 31-34C (88-93F), dropping down to 25-28C (77-82) at night.
As mentioned, the winds in the east and some central regions will be quite strong and gusty. On the eastern tip, where tropical storm Erika is expected to make a landfall, the wind speed expected will be around 85 km/h (52 mph). As the storm moves inward, the winds will gradually loose its speed but they will still be strong. As a result of that, expect some tidal waves and, quite possibly, local flooding.
On the western coast, the winds will be milder, up to 25 km/h (15 mph), with a minor unrest of the sea.
2015-08-28 09:00 TROPICAL STORM ERIKA UPDATE
Over the night, tropical storm Erika has made a landfall on Virgin Islands, Dominica and early this morning Puerto Rico. It is blamed for causing mudslides which killed four people in Dominica. It has become slightly stronger, but it is still disorganised due to unfavourable weather conditions, unfavourable for consolidating itself that is. As it approaches island of Hispaniola (Dominican Republic and Haiti) it will clash with some disruptive winds, which can make even more unstable. The eye of the storm is predicted to be quite some distance from northern Cuba, but it has to be monitor since its forecasted path can change any time after hitting Dominican Republic.

Hot day with very little clouds. Temperature in mid-30Cs. Calm sea and some breeze. Fresh night.

2015-08-28 03:00 WEATHER FORECAST. NATIONWIDE.

The temperatures will be in mid-30C (mid 90F), possible even hotter in the East. At night the temperature will drop to 25-28C (77-82F).
The winds will come from north-east direction, never exceeding the speed of 25 km/h (15mph), equivalent of a breeze.
Some unrest of the sea is possible in the East and North-East; there'll be very little waves in the central regions and calm sea in the West.
2015-08-27 09:00 TROPICAL STORM ERIKA UPDATE
Despite not hitting the land as yet, tropical storm Erika has not gained in speed, which forced weathermen into conclusion that it is a very disorganised storm. It has just reached northern Leeward Islands and it is expected that the rainfall will represent bigger hazard than actual winds. Despite the risk of local flooding, some are looking forward to the showers since certain parts of Caribbean are in the midst of the draught.
Erika will continue its way to Puerto Rico, where its path could cross with the other winds coming from the South, which can further destabilise the storm, probably affecting its speed. That is expected some time tomorrow, Friday 2015-08-28.

Tourist Advisory
The weather is hot and sunny all year round. April and May though are especially good. Then you have the most sunny days, low rainfall, low humidity, hot, but not too hot and no hurricanes. In addition, and rather perversely, generally this time, except the Easter week, is “low season”. So, you should see that flights, hotels, package holidays and car rentals are at the lowest rates but with relatively high availability. Please note some Hotels and Car models are popular all year so bookings are advisable as far in advance as possible.
